Osteopenia

Osteopenia refers to lower than normal bone mineral density, but not considered low enough to be osteoporosis. Having osteopenia puts a person at greater risk for bone fractures and for developing osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become brittle and weak; this leaves them more susceptible to fracture. Women who are past menopause are at the highest risk for developing osteoporosis.
