Transfusion Free Surgery

Surgery without the use of donor blood

The Lakewood Blood Conservation Program supports your request for medical care without the use of donor blood during medical and surgical procedures. The transfusion-free surgery program at Lakewood Regional Medical Center offers:

  • Minimal blood loss with special blood conservation methods
  • A multidisciplinary team of skilled physicians and surgeons committed to blood conservation
  • A commitment to your choice for bloodless surgery

The medical team understands that you may have strong religious convictions that prevent you from receiving a blood transfusion or that you have a personal preference against receiving donor blood due to the risk of blood-borne disease or transfusion reactions.

Many of the surgeries offered at Lakewood can be performed without transfusions, including general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology. Staff committed to the program use state-of-the-art blood conservation devices, pharmaceuticals and meticulous surgical techniques to minimize blood loss during medical or surgical intervention.
